Car accident victims can sustain brain injuries in a variety of ways. In some cases, they receive head injuries from striking their heads against the windshield or dashboard, but victims do not have to actually hit their head to sustain head trauma. In addition, the vehicle does not have to be traveling fast. Motor vehicle accidents at moderate speeds can still result in catastrophic injuries . The symptoms of a head injury may appear right away, but they can also develop slowly over hours or even days. In some cases, a person’s head may look fine and he or she may act fine, but problems are developing as a result of bleeding or swelling inside the skull.

Common Car Accident Injuries
What do I need to know about common car accident injuries? While some injuries may be obvious at the time of the accident, other injuries can take time to show themselves. When you experience a trauma such as a car crash, your body produces endorphins to mask the pain. Care and attention to potential dangers are always necessary with cars, and not just on the road. Interestingly, most car injuries occur off the road – from slamming car doors or improper use of tools like a jack. Just because you dont immediately experience pain, or an injury is not immediately apparent doesnt mean you havent been hurt. Some of the most common car accident injuries include: Head injuries and brain damage. Any blow to the head can cause injuries. Concussions, brain bruises, and even traumatic brain injury are common car accident injuries. Spinal and neck injuries. You may have heard of whiplash. This is a soft-tissue injury occurring when your neck muscles, tendons and ligaments are strained. Spinal injury can result in loss of sensation or motion. Lacerations and broken bones.
