Car crashes into canal in Bloxwich
JOPLIN, MO– A new study shows car accidents increase the highest during this time of year. According to the University of Alabama Center for Advanced Public Safety the cause is holiday travel. The recent study shows that in the past 10 years, the six days surrounding Christmas had 18-percent more car wrecks than Thanksgiving and 27-percent more than New Years Day. Those who conducted the study report the accidents can be attributed to late Christmas shopping and long distance travelers who may not be familiar with the area around their destination. Reporter: THE WITNESS TRIED TO CONVINCE THE WOMAN TO GET BACK INTO HER CAR, BUT OFFICERS SAY SHE REFUSED. MOMENTS LATER, THE DRIVER OF THIS IMPALA WAS SEEN HEADING TOWARD THEM. SHE WAS STANDING OUTSIDE HER VEHICLE AND THE IMPALA STRUCK HER CAR, WHICH THEN STRUCK HER AND THREW HER FURTHER INTO THE FREEWAY. Reporter: THE IMPACT WAS TOO MUCH FOR HER TO BEAR. UNFORTUNATELY, SHE DIED AT THE SCENE. ACCORDING TO DETECTIVES, THEY HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE THE DRIVER OF THE IMPALA MAY HAVE BEEN INTOXICATED. THEY ALSO SAY THEY’RE STILL UNSURE WHY THAT WOMAN LOST CONTROL OF HER VEHICLE IN THE FIRST PLACE. THIS IS ALL STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION. Car fire, fatal crash clog traffic on 405 at Sepulveda Pass
Fire crews from Aldridge and Bloxwich was called to the scene but as the water was so murky they could not see whether anyone was in the vehicle – so a firefighter dived in to check. However the freezing temperatures meant he would only stay in the canal for a few minutes. A water rescue team from the fire service’s Perry Barr station was drafted in. Paramedics and the air ambulance were also called, while the West Midlands Police helicopter was on standby in case an infra red search was needed. Fire crews managed to winch part of the vehicle out of the water and confirmed it was empty. Within about an hour the search was called off as the emergency services were satisfied nobody was in the canal. Police are now investigating.
