How six JAMB candidates perished in auto crash •An unregistered tipper lost control, | National Mirror
The atmosphere in Oba Akoko became tense after the news of the death of the students filtered in as parents trooped out in lamentation. This led to chaos on the highway as some rampaging youths from the town staged a protest over the deaths, by blocking the highways with bonfire thus causing traffic gridlock in the area for so many hours. It, however, took the combined effort of regular policemen and soldiers on duty on the highway to pacify the youths who had meanwhile set about burning the tipper. Some of the parents who spoke with our correspondent called on the state and federal government to come to their aid by expanding the road. The flow of traffic on this road is too much but government has not deemed it fit to expand the road a little. This is the route of most people traveling to Abuja and some parts of the northern states. Though government is patching the pot holes, they should also do some expansion to save lives on this road, said a woman, who described self as Kikelomo. Confirming the accident, the Ondo State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Olufunke Daniel, said the unfortunate incident could have been avoided if the driver of the tipper had taken to the traffic rules.
