A vehicle driven by 36-year-old Michael Ettz of Lodi rear-ended Breslin’s cruiser a short time later, authorities said. The officer suffered a significant head injury and underwent surgery for a skull fracture and bleeding, while Ettz was treated for minor injuries. Canaje was not hurt in the accident.
