Bergen County Police Officer Daniel Breslin critically injured in crash on Route 46 in Lodi – News 12 New Jersey

(WTVR) A driver and passenger could both be left paralyzed aftera car accident in Chesterfield onFriday night. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. in the1100 block of Riverway Road. Police say they believe the driver lost control while heading south down Riverway Road from Beach Road. Officers said the male driver was found partially trapped behind the wheel of the car. The female passenger appeared to have been ejected during the accident. The investigation is still ongoing as police try to determine a definite cause of the crash.

Police received a call of a person down early this morning near Western and Field. When they arrived at the scene, they found a man dead on the sidewalk. Police say the man was not carrying any identification and it’s unclear how he died. An autopsy will be scheduled. If you have any information, call Toledo Police. Car crash kills 4 in Texas – Xinhua |

A vehicle driven by 36-year-old Michael Ettz of Lodi rear-ended Breslin’s cruiser a short time later, authorities said. The officer suffered a significant head injury and underwent surgery for a skull fracture and bleeding, while Ettz was treated for minor injuries. Canaje was not hurt in the accident. Breslin, a 39-year-old married father of two, was hospitalized in critical condition. Besides his head injuries, authorities say he also may have suffered broken ribs in the crash. After reporting the accident, Canaje removed Ettz from his vehicle and brought him to an area off the roadway. Ettz then fled the scene on foot, authorities said, but he was soon found in the backyard of a local home by Lodi police. Ettz, a mathematics teacher and athletics coach at Lodi High School, was expected to be released from the hospital on Saturday and will then be remanded to Lodi police. Police officer seriously injured in 2-car crash – Newsday

(4/20/14) LODI – A police officer was critically injured in a crash in Lodi Saturday morning. It happened on Route 46, across from Christopher Street just before 2 a.m. The Bergen County Office of Emergency Management says a 2012 Ford Fusion struck a Bergen County police officer’s vehicle from behind. According to the prosecutor’s office, another Bergen County police cruiser was pulled over in the shoulder of Route 46 with radio troubles. Officer Daniel Breslin pulled alongside within the roadway. The two officers had a brief discussion about what was going wrong when a vehicle driven by Michael Ettz came from behind and struck Breslin’s vehicle. READ MORE: New Jersey Crime Stories The officer who had originally pulled over removed Ettz, 36, from his wrecked car. After that, the prosecutor says Ettz took off on foot, but was caught a few blocks from the accident scene by Lodi police. Breslin was trapped in his patrol vehicle after the crash. After he was extricated by emergency responders, he was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center to undergo surgery for a skull fracture and internal bleeding, according to police. He also reportedly suffered broken ribs and is in critical condition.

Ice Cream truck involved in multi-car accident – Toledo (OH) News, Weather and Sports

state of Texas Saturday, local media reported. The deadly crash happened early Saturday morning in Pasadena, about 20 km from downtown Houston, local TV ABC13 reported. Police said a black Mazda Miata apparently went too fast around a curve and lost control. It crossed yellow solid lines, drifted into oncoming traffic from the other direction, and slammed into the taxi. Police said two people in the Mazda died along with two passengers in the backseat of the taxi minivan. The taxi driver and two other passenger were airlifted to a hospital with critical injuries, according to the report. Pasadena police spokesman Vance Mitchell told the media that the impact of the collision sounded like an “explosion” to an officer who happened to be near the scene. He said there was no actual fire but described the accident scene as “horrendous.” Authorities have not yet released names or ages of the victims, but they said alcohol is believed to be a factor behind the accident.
