Because most insurers are national (or international), their policies cover a driver’s actions in whatever state he or she travels. “In many cases, the driver’s liability insurance will be sufficient to pay for whatever medical bills an injury victim incurs,” says Mr. Ginnis. However, the possibility exists that a victim may suffer serious injury, which requires expensive medical care, being absent from work, and/or a permanent disability that forever changes a victim’s quality of life. In these instances, a personal injury lawsuit may be necessary to collect all of the monetary damages that a victim deserves. Thankfully, Florida protects people who have been injured by out-of-state drivers with what is commonly known as the Long-Arm Statute (as in the “long arm of the law”). This law states that whenever drivers cross over state lines into Florida, they automatically consent to appear in court in the event they are named as a defendant in an auto accident lawsuit. The Long-Arm Statute has the power to compel out-of-state drivers to come to Florida and participate in court proceedings. If you feel that you need to file a personal injury lawsuit after an auto accident, you are strongly encouraged to engage the services of a qualified auto accident attorney. He or she has the expertise and knowledge to file this type of lawsuit, negotiate with defendants and their insurance companies, and advocate for your rights in court if necessary.

Four Injured In Car Crash On I-295 – Philadelphia News, Weather and Sports from WTXF FOX 29

One man in his sixties died early Tuesday morning in a one-car accident along I-635 and K-5 in Kansas City, Kan. The crash happened around 2:30 Tuesday morning in the southbound lanes. There were two people in the small compact car when the driver crossed over the highway, rolled the vehicle and ended up on a grassy hill. Roll over accidents are immensely survivable, as long as you got your seatbelt on, said an officer with the Kansas Highway Patrol. Its the only little thing we can do to keep us safe when we make a mistake like that. The driver, identified as Kevin Fisk, 60, was not wearing a seatbelt. He died at the scene. A 35-year-old male passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries. He called authorities to report the accident. The Kansas Highway Patrol said speed may have been a factor.

Post-accident signs that your car should be checked out | Tampa Bay Times

41 on April 17, 2014, when Macner, who has a right above-the-knee amputation, accidentally pressed the gas instead of the brake. His amputation was the result of what has been described as health complications after his military service ended. The metal platforms used to transform a cars pedals for amputees are actually quite easy to confuse and one can see how the accident occurred. Macner was taken to the hospital with a broken collarbone and lacerations, but Nina, terrified, climbed out the passenger side window and ran away. Over Easter weekend, the call went out for dog lovers nationwide to keep an eye out for the sweet-faced shepherd mix. Nina has a microchip, making it possible to positively identify her, but her fear after the accident most likely kept her away from people. Not just dozens but hundreds, even thousands, of print and television media pieces spread like wildfire, and the hunt for Nina was on. Luke Macner lost his cell phone in the crash and his car was totaled, but the loss did not stop there. He also suffered damage to his prosthetic leg, wheelchair, and, of course, he lost his new best friend. Nina was meant to serve as his new wheelchair service dog, and Macner tearfully told news crews Im lost without [her]. And so it was cause for celebration when an HSTB representative informed this author that Nina appears to have been found. Apparently a woman found a dog fitting her description just one half-mile from the crash site on Saturday night, April 19, 2014.

Early Sunday morning police tried to pull over the vehicle, which had been reported stolen. The driver of the vehicle, 17-year-old Charles Miller, took off, though, at a high rate of speed. The officers attempted to follow the vehicle, but lost sight after the car stirred up a high amount of dust and debris. Police continued to follow the dust trail to the I-75 service drive, where officers saw the vehicle had turned upside down and was crashed against a median wall near Campbell. Charles had lost control of the vehicle. Police went down the embankment onto the freeway and called for EMS. Charles and his two friends, 14-year-old Cynthia Zaraharas and 16-year-old Suhali Alvarez, died from injuries sustained in the crash. Not because you did anything wrong. But more likely because someone else was not paying attention, was talking or texting on the cell phone, or just being negligent in their driving. Below you will find some helpful tips on how to make the process after the accident as painless as possible. THINGS TO DO Cops: Woman hit in head with rock You should contact your insurance company as soon as possible after the accident. Make sure you write down the claim number they provide, as this will save you lots of time the next time you need to speak to anyone regarding the accident. Take some time and read your insurance policy and understand it. Bring the policy or at least the insurance card with you to any subsequent doctors appointment, as well as to any visit to any attorney. Immediately after the accident, take extensive notes as to how the accident occurred, who was in the vehicles, the directions of travel, as well as anything that may have caused the accident (i.e., someone ran the light). Also take pictures at the scene of the intersection or the location of the vehicles, as well as any property damage. Additionally, note the name and address of any people who stop and say they witnessed the accident. These people may leave before the police arrive, but you can always get their testimony later to help with resolving your claim.

Even if original damage is repaired and covered by insurance, problems discovered relatively soon after the accident may be covered as supplemental repairs without the need to pay an additional deductible, as long as they can be directly connected to the original incident. So don’t wait, as mechanics say that the more time that lapses after an accident, the harder it is to connect a repair to it. Here are some post-accident signs that your car should be checked out by a reliable mechanic: Battery failure: An accident can jar the battery, shaking up battery sediment and causing lead plates in the cell to short out or break. The “check engine” light: It’s not unusual for the light to come on because of problems with emissions components. Have a trusted mechanic check out the car. Leaks: An accident may cause a nicked hose or tiny crack, letting radiator fluid, oil, power steering fluid or other liquids escape. Misalignment: Some accidents can throw cars out of alignment, leading to excessive wear on tires. Finding a mechanic If you don’t already have a trusted mechanic, consider these tips for finding one: Get recommendations from friends, family and neighbors, as well as consumer reviews on a trusted online source.

Feliciano’s father struggled to find work as a carpenter, and his family moved to New York when Feliciano was a teenager. Shortly after arriving, Feliciano joined a local band as a percussionist and became friends with music giants including Tito Puente. On Oct. 5, 1957, Feliciano married Prieto, a Puerto Rican dancer, and that night, gave his first concert as a singer with the Joe Cuba band. A decade later, he left the band and then collaborated with Eddie Palmieri on his album, “Champagne,” but succumbed to heroin addiction shortly afterward and withdrew from the spotlight for nearly three years. He returned to his native Puerto Rico for rehab, became a staunch anti-drug spokesman and joined the Fania All Stars in 1972. That same year, he released “Cheo,” a solo album that is considered one of his best. In the mid-1980s, he launched his own production company called Coche Records and produced five albums. PHOTO: Cheo Feliciano performs on Fania All Stars Concert at Coliseo de Puerto Rico, Oct.18, 2013, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

“Cheo, my friend, I’m in so much pain. You will always be one of my heroes,” tweeted New York salsa musician Willie Colon. Cheo Feliciano was born in the southern coastal city of Ponce and formed his first band when he was about 8, playing instruments made from cans, according to a February 2000 interview he gave online music site descarga.com.

A vehicle driven by 36-year-old Michael Ettz of Lodi rear-ended Breslin’s cruiser a short time later, authorities said. Authorities say he will face criminal and motor vehicle charges, and it was not known if he had retained an attorney. Copyright 2014 The Associated Press.

How six JAMB candidates perished in auto crash •An unregistered tipper lost control, | National Mirror

The atmosphere in Oba Akoko became tense after the news of the death of the students filtered in as parents trooped out in lamentation. This led to chaos on the highway as some rampaging youths from the town staged a protest over the deaths, by blocking the highways with bonfire thus causing traffic gridlock in the area for so many hours. It, however, took the combined effort of regular policemen and soldiers on duty on the highway to pacify the youths who had meanwhile set about burning the tipper. Some of the parents who spoke with our correspondent called on the state and federal government to come to their aid by expanding the road. The flow of traffic on this road is too much but government has not deemed it fit to expand the road a little. This is the route of most people traveling to Abuja and some parts of the northern states. Though government is patching the pot holes, they should also do some expansion to save lives on this road, said a woman, who described self as Kikelomo. Confirming the accident, the Ondo State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Olufunke Daniel, said the unfortunate incident could have been avoided if the driver of the tipper had taken to the traffic rules.
